Foundation learning
Foundation Learning is a provision for young people aged 14-19. At springboard we offer a programme called ‘The Ladder’. The Ladder gives the opportunity to ‘Learn, Achieve, Discover, Develop, Excel and gain Recognition’ .The programme offers a range of activities that enable students to go on to do apprenticeships, go into further education or onto employment. Extra support for Maths, English and ICT is available if wanted or if they want help in being prepared for work
The length of time spent on ‘The Ladder’ programme varies for each student as it is an individualized programme. Support and development is largely in vocational context, the average stay of a student is 36 weeks, training between 16-30 hours.
Before being accepted into the programme, learners have to be assessed and interviewed, this is so we can give support were it is needed in English, Maths and personal development
Vocational Qualifications offered under the ladder programme:
- City and Guilds-Basic Construction Skills- Multi Crafts + CSCS Health and Safety Award
- OCR- Business and Administration
- City and Guilds – Caring for Children
- City and Guilds Functional Skills in Maths , English, and ICT
Alternative curriculum
Our aim is to ensure that young people are able to access employment, further training and education at school leaving age. We offer an alternative curriculum to school leavers in years 10 and 11. Working with local schools we support them and help them achieve their potential that they may not be achieving through standard schooling.
What does the programme consist of?
The programme includes functional Skills, Media, Construction, motivational training and guidance, vocational ‘tasters’, community focus/citizenship and support for students into further education or training .
