Information and Communication Technology

Ever thought about a career in IT?

Are you interested in computers and how they work? Do you have good communication skills and practical ability? Can you deal calmly and tactfully with people? Do you have patience and good analytical skills? Then a career in IT may be for you!

You could work in technical support, IT training, network management, technical sales or website maintenance and design, for example. Nearly all organisations use IT and need IT support, so you could work in any industry.

You may work in an office, or travel out to different sites or to see customers.

What training does Springboard Bromley offer? We offer courses for 16 - 24 year olds, who wish to work towards an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship in IT. You will work towards units in making use of IT, operating the computer, IT maintenance and security, IT trouble shooting and software packages, amongst others.

As an Apprentice you will be paid a salary by your employer for the duration of your Apprenticeship. You will be paid a minimum of £80 per week. In some instances you may be able to start working towards some of the qualifications for your Apprenticeship without being employed. If this is the case you may be entitled to claim EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance). You can obtain an application pack for EMA by calling 080 810 16 2 19, or by pre-registering on the EMA website at www.ema.dfes.gov.uk.

What does my course involve? It is all about gaining skills and expertise while doing the job. You will have support from a training advisor who will regularly monitor your progress and agree targets with you to ensure you achieve. During your Apprenticeship you will complete and NVQ (Level 2 or 3), Key Skills and a Technical Certificate.

How often will I need to attend? Typically you will attend Springboard 1 day a week and your place of work 4 days a week. Learners working towards NVQ Level 3 attend Springboard Bromley once a month.

How long will it take to gain my qualification? Learners studying Apprenticeships (NVQ Level 2) may take between 9-15 months and Advanced Apprenticeships (NVQ Level 3) about 24 months.
