Basic Skills in Construction (Multi Skills)

Do you want a short course to try out the different construction trades?

Then our City & Guilds Multi Craft (6216) course may be for you! This course is available to students on our Entry to Employment (E2E) programme.

What does my course involve? You will work towards units in Painting and Decorating, Carpentry and Joinery and Plumbing.

You will learn a number of different skills. These could include fixing a skirting, hanging an internal door, copper pipe bending and jointing, use of plastic materials for plumbing, stripping and preparing an area to receive wallpaper, preparing and painting a wooden window.

If you are on the E2E programme you can claim Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). You can obtain an application pack by calling 080 810 16 2 19, or by pre-registering on the EMA website at www.ema.dfes.gov.uk.

How many days will I need to attend? Typically you will attend Springboard 3 days a week - 2 days for your City & Guilds course, 1 day for your Key/Basic Skills.

How long will the course take? Approximately 25 weeks.

What can I do after I finish this course? You could progress onto one of our other courses. We offer Apprenticeships in Carpentry and Joinery or in Painting and Decorating. If you are interested in Plumbing we can refer you onto another training provider.

To join our E2E programme visit your local Connexions office, who will refer you to us for a one to one interview

Here's what one of our learners had to say about the Multi Skills course:

Keston Spence, 18, finished his Multi Skills course and progressed onto a Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship. As Keston explained, "E2E helped me since it got me prepared and committed to the course. The Multi Skills course was good - I got to try out different trades. I would have liked it if they had done bricklaying too, but otherwise it was really good. Multi Skills helped me to see where I want to go - what apprenticeships I wanted to do. The staff at Springboard Bromley are great. The working area is good to; as we've gone along we've actually built some of the rooms in the warehouse. We got new tools and equipment so we could do this, and hopefully now more people will be able to attend classes. When I have finished this apprenticeship I plan to do some others - plumbing and electrical - so I can offer many skills and eventually set up my own business."
