Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships include a number of elements:

1. Induction programme
2. NVQ’s (National Vocational Qualifications)
3. Key Skills
4. Technical Certificates
5. Training days
6. Work placement

1. When you start your Apprenticeship you will attend our induction programme. This includes sessions on health & safety, equality & diversity and the terms & conditions of your training.

2. NVQ’s are designed around the skills people use at work and describe what a competent person in that occupation should know and be able to do. Apprentices complete NVQ Level 2 and Advanced Apprentices NVQ Level 3.

3. The Key Skills are Communication, IT, Problem Solving, Working with Others, Self Development and Working with Numbers. Your Training Advisor will explain which Key Skills you will need to achieve in order to gain your Apprenticeship.

4. Technical Certificates develop your understanding of the vocation you are studying, and the ‘supporting’ knowledge associated with the relevant NVQ.

5. You will attend Springboard Bromley for regular training days. Your Training Advisor will agree your particular pattern of attendance with you. If you are aged 16-24 you will not have to pay for your training – it is government funded. If you are 25 or over please contact us for costs. Apprenticeships (NVQ Level 2) may take between 9-18 months. Advanced Apprenticeships (NVQ Level 3) typically take up to 24 months.

6. To complete an Apprenticeship you will need to be employed in a work placement that relates to the qualification you are studying. You will be paid a salary by your employer for the duration of your Apprenticeship.
In some instances you may be able to start working towards some of the qualifications for your Apprenticeship without being employed. If this is the case you may be entitled to claim EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance). You can obtain an application pack for EMA by calling 080 810 16 2 19, or by pre-registering on the EMA website at www.ema.dfes.gov.uk.
